From Farmland to the Baltic
Dear CAU Kiel,
I studied at the university during 1992-1993. It was easily one of the best experiences of my younger years! I got to sail on a boat for the first time in my life out in the harbor. I had been in other boats before, but that was an excellent experience. Coming from Illinois, it was really great to leave next to a harbor, and see ships from different countries coming in.
I met a lot of nice people while on exchange there, and keep in touch with a lot of them still. Even though I'm writing in English, I definitely improved my German. One of my favorite classes was a literature lecture that focused on German writers in the Post-World War II period.
Another great thing I got to do at Kiel was take a trip organized by the university to Berlin. It was amazing, walking under the Brandenburg Gate, visiting the Olympic Stadium, and even visiting a Soviet Army base in the process of being dismantled.
Well, keep up the good work, and I hope to return someday for a visit.
